Appen Nile Project for Facebook Review and Qualifications

Appen Nile project – Ads Evaluation for Facebook

Appen offers more than just rating projects for Google. Currently there is a project called Nile where, as a rater, you can review ads based on your likes, your interests, or your web viewing habits.

You can change these settings in Facebook to adjust what ads you get ‘served’ when doing the ad ratings. The ads are not based on companies that you have already manually liked, but ads that are similar. When starting the project, you get 20 ads to rate. These can be anything from video ads, to just plain text ads or ads with a photo.

Before you are accepted to the Nile project, you are asked for your Facebook profile URL. You must have at least 50 friends on this Facebook profile. Appen simply checks this and nothing else about your profile. You will hear back from Appen within a week if you are accepted into the program. In order to stay in the Nile program, you must work no less than 5 hours per week.

When rating you are asked ‘How much do you feel that this ad is ‘relevant, useful, entertaining, if the ad is offensive, or misleading. You can rate each one of these on a scale from 1-3 using radio buttons.

You are then asked ‘How much do you want to see this in your news feed’ and are shown a scale from 1-5 from ‘I definitely do not want to see this in my feed’ to ‘I definitely want to see this in my feed. Once you have done this, there is an explanation that asks you ‘In your own words, why do you feel this way about the ad.

It is not known if the comments are actually looked at in the ads or not. You don’t need to create a huge explanation. A simple reason why you do or do not like the ad is good enough. When you are finished rating the 20 different ads, you are then asked to wait for one hour to complete what is called a ‘Bakeoff’ task. The Bakeoff task determines which ads you liked and which ads you didn’t. It asks you to choose out of 6 ads in a side-by-side comparison, which one you would like to see in your feed over the other. This task should be completed exactly one hour after you’ve rated the ads. Currently you are allowed to only work one hour per day on Nile. The hour that you wait for the Bakeoff tasks is not paid. So you charge 1 hour for the Nile ratings and the Bakeoff task which takes you less than a minute to do since all you are doing is clicking which ad over the other you want to see.

You must work at least 1 hour per day to Nile is an interesting project and will probably go full time, but currently there is just one hour allowed per day. That’s an extra 30 plus hours per month and totally worth the time. It also pays the same hourly wage as the Google rating program.

Appen Nile Project Qualification

Appen has introduced qualification exam for Nile project. The Nile project exam consists of 30 questions designed in a way to assess your understanding of basic concepts of how to evaluate ads and search results. Again before taking this exam you will be given an access to specific guidelines which you need to study carefully before proceeding with the exam itself. Do not underestimate the complexity of the Nile qualification exam; some of the questions are tricky and confusing in its wording, so without preparation and thoughtful approach you have a very low chance to pass this exam. One attempt of taking this exam is allowed. Once the exam is passed (you will get result immediately after completing the test), you will be offered to sign a contract.

  1. I need to work on qualifying for Nile. Haven’t gotten around too it yet.

  2. Does the friends list have to public when applying for the project, or does someone from LF add you to access your profile and check that you have 50+ friends?

  3. Hello,
First of all, thank you very much for all the good information you share on this blog. I have just passed the Yukon exam, and your post about it have been very helpful.
I have two questions: can I take a few days to read and learn all the new content I discover on the Yukon page, before I start working? It seems there is a lot to learn, but I wonder if they will penalize me for not working immediately…
My second question is about the Nile project: are there new exams to pass, like the Yukon ones, before being accepted?
    Thank you again!

    1. Hello, thank you for your warm words regarding my blog!

In USA there is no qualification exam for Nile project. Before you are accepted to the Nile project, you are asked for your Facebook profile URL. You must have at least 50 friends on this Facebook profile. Leapforce simply checks this and nothing else about your profile. You will hear back from Leapforce within a week if you are accepted into the program.

As to Yukon:indeed you should not do live task immidiatly up on getting full access to raterhub platform. You wont be penalized for not doing tasks for a few weeks. It is highly advised that you hold off on these if you do not want to be restricted for quality in the next month. Typically tasks which are available for new raters are quality tasks on which raters are accessed for their quality. Instead, new agents should focus on doing simulation tasks and self-education. Time spent doing this will really pay off, and you wont be restricted for quality in the future. Also, by doing a certain number of simulation tasks correctly you will upgrade your status in the system, and will be allowed to work more hours.

      1. Thank you very much for your good advice, it’s reassuring to know that I can train before actually working, I really want to do things well. As for the Nile project, I live in France, I don’t know if it changes something regarding the absence of qualification exams, I hope it doesn’t! Thank you again and best regards.

      2. I had make some mistake in registration detail of Nile project while I’m applying. I mean I have less than 50 friend at that time Now progress of Nile project is not showing in my dashboard. Can I make changes to registration detail If yes how?

      3. Hello, there is no such option to change your registration details, however you may ask to agent support and ask them to update your details manually and allow you to qualify for the project.

    2. Hi would you please elaborate how did you prepare for the qualification exam.
I’ve already attempted 2 times and I need help from people like you.

  4. hello ,
i have finished the third part of the Yukon project and didn’t get the result until now.
am i allowed to participate in the Nile project and be qualified for it

  5. Hello, I am from India. I couldn’t qualify for Yukon in my second attempt, the last part got me :(. In the first attempt, I couldn’t due to a paucity of time. So I have applied for NILE. Are there other portals as well like yukon (on lionbridge etc) where I can apply?

  6. Hi Anurag,

You may try to apply to iSoftStone and Appen Butler Hill. They also offer search engine evalutor positions (servirce for Microsoft Bing). Additionally you may try to re-apply for search engine evaluations positions at Lionbridge or Leapforce, how to do this please read bellow:

What should you do if you fail the exam twice how to re-apply?

If you fail the exam the second time, Leapforce will not allow you to retake it a third time. In this case I would advise that you apply to another vendor like Lionbridge. Before proceeding with registration, make sure that you use a new gmail account, when filling out the application and answering the application questions, indicate that you have never applied/worked for search engine evaluator position before. A new IP address is also required. You may use VPN to change your IP address. Once you have started the application and qualification process, I recommend you keep the same IP address during the process. Successful outcome of this approach is not guaranteed, but it is possible.

  7. Hi people thank you so much to share this information, I am Vanessa living in Spain i just aproved the nile test with Leapforce, now im wondering this is a proyect for 6 months like they say in the contract? how much do they pay per hour? right now is just 1 hour per day, so im just going to work 30 hours per month? or there is an option to work more. Do they pay using paypal? Thank you so much in advance!!

  8. Hi Vanessa,

My experience proves the fact that if raters deliver good service and meet all contract requirements, raters will not have any problems and in most cases the contract with them will be prolonged. As to payment, it is made via direct deposit into your account. At the momemt only one hour per day is possible but you can work on both projests Yukon and Nile.

  9. Hi there I just found this blog! I just failed my 2nd attempt with the Yukon exam and I understand that means I cant reapply for the google search job. I was wondering can I still apply for the Nile project, and if so where do I apply? I,m having a hard finding any information on where to apply for this

  10. Does anyone know if you can work on the project twice? I believe I work on the same project with Appen. I’d like to go through Leapforce as well so can I do 2 hours per day. Is anyone currently doing this or know if it’s allowed.

  11. I have been working on Nile for a little more than a month and the biggest issue I have is wondering if I have to actually click on the ad that shows up in my project list, go the the website, click around, then go back to the project page and do the evaluation. Or, do I simply rate the ad on what show up on my project home page.

To be honest, there are some ads, that I know I would never click on in the first place, so I just rate the face value of the ad.

    Thanks
    Mike

  12. Hi Tim,
thanks for your useful information, I passed the full exam and now I’m actually working. Great job, I’ll buy you a coffee! 🙂

  13. i failed my first yukon attempt but friend of mine said that even if i passed it they will close my account it couple days
    is this even true ?

    1. No, it is not true, normally applicants should get the second attemp (exam re-take) which is normally send on exam due date of previous exam+1-5 days.

  14. I just gave the Nile exam and failed. This was my first test at Leapforce. So demotivating 🙁

  15. Hello I must be lucky I am from uk and last week applied for leapforce online and 4 days later i get email telling me to sign some online forms which i completed. Than I am offered to apply for a project and I just applied for this Nile project as that was the only available one and am awaiting reply now.

Lucky because last few weeks I been reearching about this hard 3 part exam you have to take ?

Is that for a different project and will i ever have to take it in future ?

    Thanks friend and good site.

    Peace.

    1. Probably in your locale Yukon project is not available at the moment, once it becomes available you will see qualify yukon project button on your dashboard.

    2. i had the same experience. i wasn’t asked to complete any exam initially. they asked me to sign some e- documents to apply for nile project. i also want same clarification as yours. i want to know will they ask me for exam in the next step or when?

  16. Hello everyone.actually i am trying to applying for the exam.but i am unable to do it.can anyone please help me.

  17. Hey Allen, i`m from India and i failed on leapforce yucon process continuously two times at 3rd stage then they allow me some Tahoe qualification process to apply.I need to know that if i apply for thisand in case if i got qualify is it possible like in future i apply for yukon process again and one more question if i permanently close my this account and apply with some new account is it allow me to work or they throw me away in near future.

    1. What should you do if you fail the exam twice how to re-apply?

The first thing I want to mention is that; I hope you would have got some assistance if you have failed the exam the first time. If you fail the exam the second time, Leapforce will not allow you to retake it a third time. In this case I would advise that you apply to another vendor like Lionbridge (or vice versa).

Before proceeding with registration, make sure that you use a new gmail account, when filling out the application and answering the application questions, indicate that you have never applied/worked for search engine evaluator position before. A new IP address is also required. You may use VPN to change your IP address. Once you have started the application and qualification process, I recommend you keep the same IP address during the whole process. Successful outcome of this approach is not guaranteed, but it is possible. Additionally I would like to point out that Lionbridge is very strict in terms of IP address, the vendor prefers to deal with apllicants who have resedential IP address.
PS You also may apply on behalf of another person (e.g. your mother).
In case of successful application make sure to get in touch with me for tutoring with Yukon part 3.

  18. Hi Allen, I am from India. Recently I have applied for Nile project and they have approved my profile. They even sent the contract for signature. To be of my knowledge, I have not given any exam. Is there something that I am missing. Pls suggest

  19. Hi Tim, i’m working with leapforce on shasta project right now, i there’s any problem if i applied to appen with the same hotmail linked to my leapfroce account?
as far as i can remember I’ve applied for nile project for leapforce maybe a year ago but i didn’t get any feed back.

    1. Hi,

You may apply for any project at Appen. Shasta is very specific project and it is compatible with any social media/search engine evaluator projects. Please read more about project compatibility here: https://passleapforceexam.com/2017/03/14/how-much-can-you-earn-with-leapforce-lionbridgeappen/

May I ask you to briefly share with us about your experience with Shasta project here:https://passleapforceexam.com/category/maps-analyst/

      Thank you!

  20. Hi Allen

    1. Hello,

You may apply for the same or similar projects which are available at Lionbridge or Appen in locale.

  21. Hi Tim, I´ve been selected to work on Nile project and I would like to thank you for all your help!! You site is great I has much imformation for us!
    Thank you!

  22. Hello and good day. At the current moment, there is no Nile on my projects tab..
I am just curious though (if you know) at what countries is the Nile Project available at the moment, and do you think the would also offer it to other counties soon?
And if you are working only on Truckee, would you also be able to work at Nile at the same time?

    Thanks so much.
    Have a good day!

  23. Hi Tim,

Thanks for this fruitful blog. I am on the stage to select shasta or nile project? As far as I learned you have experience in both of them. Could you please help me about which one you offer me to apply? Cons and Pros? Regarding exam, workload, income opporunity and hardship?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Yasin, you should make decision by yourself regarding what project to go for, all info is available on my blog, read article and comments about Nile and Shasta projects and make your own decision.

  24. Hello
I applied a request more than 6 months ago I seem to have specified to have work to appen on this project this appen ads
at present i am not under mission at appen and i have just received a request for invitatation to the project nils leapforce knowing that appen to buy back the force there is there conflict of interest?

    1. I think you may proceed further without any worry regarding IP address conflict issue.

  25. I am accepting at leapforce but I do not understand the fact that we are asked to register everything

We are requiring that all raters on the Nile project working in FRT, on their desktops, keep accurate records of their batch by taking a screenshot of the filled out comment section of the last ad you rate each day. You do not need to provide us with this screenshot, but you should keep them for your records in case we do ask for them.

These records are in addition to records you should be already be keeping track of (session start times, session end times, story counts) and should be saved on your system. We do not need the records you are keeping unless we request it directly.

You are free to keep records in any format you wish as long as you can provide a URL for any given date. Tracking your URL will help us solve invoicing issues much faster and may serve as proof of work. This should only take a small amount of your time each day

it puts me very badly I think not to continue being previously in appen I find it very limited

  26. Hi Tim, thank you for this blog.
I am at the beginning of process with Nile. I have a question, you say that you have to wait exactly one hour to work on the “Bakeoff”. But is it possible to wait for more time? Like doing the first part on the morning then the second part at night? It seems awkward to have to wait exactly for one hour.
Also, is there a number of tasks we have to made in one hour (so maybe 45 mn or 1h30), or is it only that we have to work for one hour (with a minimum number of tasks I guess)?
    Kind Regards

    1. Hello, in this project you can invoice only 1 hour per day, and when doing bakeoff tasks, you should not wait wait exactly 1h, you may complete them later on the same day.

  27. hello! I would be interested to partecipate at Nile project but I’m not sure if will be possible to use my fb account that is totally mine but it was not created with my real name (I’m already working with the company that host the project). Can you help me resolve this amletic question? thanks in advance! 🙂

    1. Your FB FB should be real, otherwise the client (FB) will not approve your account for the project.

      1. thanks a lot Tim! I just created a new fb account with my real name, for now I don’t have the minimum required friends (50) so I think it’s impossible to be accepted. Do you know if it’s required to have the account since at least 1 year or there are others requirements? thanks again, your help is very useful.

      2. All requirements are stated in the project info email, I have no more info to add in this connection.

  28. Hi Tim ,
I need to know how the Nile project team gonna pay me.
Is it automatically credit to my Payoneer Account or I need to submit any documents to claim ?

  29. Hi Tim, I´ve been selected to work on Nile project But I CAN’T ACCESS THE SITE TO WORK ,COULD YOU HELP ME?
